The plans below show the site of a farm in 1950 and the same site today.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 7.0)
The maps illustrate how the layout of a farm has changed from 1950 to the present day.
Overall, a significant changes has occured over the years, particularly with introduction of facilities to accommodate tourist. Several tracks have been converted into roads, while the area formerly used for sheep has been repurposed. However, the locations of the farmhouse, chicken area and agricultural land have remained largely unchanged.
To begin with, the area allocated for sheep in 1950 has been divided into two sections, one of which is now used for camping and parking, while the other contains numerous solar panels as well as another parking area. The sheep area itself, however, has been completely replaced. In addition, the former barn site has been converted into holiday cottages, while a road has been extended to the barn near the chicken area.
Meanwhile, the areas used for growing vegetables and soft fruit have remained unchanged. However, a farm shop has been added to the area containing fruit trees. Similarly, the farmhouse and chicken area have remained in their original locations.
