IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The plans below show the site of a farm in 1950 and the same site today.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The map shows information about the farm before and after the refurbishment.
Overall, what stands out from the diagram is that, the farm consisted of only seven main areas in 1950, which occupied a larger area. Whereas, after the renovation, that space has converted into several useful areas.
Previously, the farm had fruit trees in the north-west area, along with an area for soft-fruit and vegetables in the middle.There was a barn, a farmhouse and an area for chickens in the south-east, and all of them were bordered by a river and a track. In the north, a large area was occupied by sheep.
In today's farm ,there is a farm shop parallel to the parking area in the west, along with a camping field in the north. Solar panels have also been installed in the north-east, with another parking area in the east. The area for a barn has been replaced with the holiday cottages and the barn was moved to the south attached with the road.
