Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarise the main features of the maps by noting additions such as the solar panels, camping field, and farm shop, as well as features that remained unchanged like the farmhouse. However, the overview is extremely brief and superficial ('a moderate update'). Furthermore, some of the information is inaccurate or confusingly stated, such as claiming that the sheep field in 1950 is 'planned to undergo some modification' rather than simply being replaced by the camping field and solar panels today. The development of ideas is limited, and key changes like the introduction of holiday cottages are missed. Consequently, the response meets the criteria for Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into four short paragraphs, representing an attempt at paragraphing with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. However, the overall progression is weak and disjointed. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as the phrase 'Such as solar panels, camping field' standing alone as a fragment, and transitional phrases like 'In addition' and 'Despite these major changes' used repetitively. Referencing is also sometimes unclear. Because the logical flow is disrupted by these mechanical errors, the response fits Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive ('maps', 'major update', 'change', 'remain same'). There are numerous lexical and spelling errors throughout the text, including 'illustrates a sight' instead of 'site', 'parkimg', 'bellow', and 'Frruit trees, soft fruitd'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary items such as 'modification', 'reconstructed', and 'unchanged', but inaccuracies in word choice and spelling are noticeable and occasionally impede communication. This performance aligns with Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('The maps illustrates'), tense confusion ('the maps showing', 'there is some place will not change'), and sentence fragments or run-on structures ('which is planned to undergo some modification, at present a huge solar panels installed ar the right corner'). These persistent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect the descriptors for Band 5.0.
