The plans below show the site of a farm in 1950 and the same site today.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 7.0)
The two maps show the changes in Beechwood Farm between 1950 and today.
Overall, the farm has changed from a purely agricultural site into a modern area with tourism and energy facilities, while some farming sections still remain.
In 1950, there was a big field for sheep on the north-east side of the farm. In the south-west, crops were grown in three separate sections: fruit trees, soft fruits, and vegetables along the river. A track went through the middle to a barn, a farmhouse, and a chicken area.
Today, many new buildings and facilities have been built. The sheep field has been replaced by a camping field and solar panels in the north-east corner. Near the main road, part of the fruit tree area has been converted into a farm shop and a car parking area. The old tracks have turned into proper roads. Furthermore, the old barn has been changed into holiday cottages, and a smaller barn is relocated further south. A second parking area has also been added near the cottages, but the farmhouse and chickens stay in the same place.
