The two pictures illustrates how Beechwood Farm has changed from 1950 to today.

Overall, the Beechwood Farm has undergone significant changes, with many orginal features being removed and replaced. Recreational and many other facilities have been added including Farm shop, parking, camping fields, solar pannels, holiday cottages and roads, while soft fruits, vegetables, Farm house remains unchanged.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The student addresses the main task by outlining the key changes between the 1950 and current maps of Beechwood Farm. An overview is provided in the second paragraph, mentioning that original features were replaced by recreational and other facilities, while elements like the farmhouse and soft fruits remain. However, there are some inaccuracies and omissions in reporting specific spatial relationships and transformations; for example, stating that the 'barn have been replaced by the end of the road ends' is confusing and misinterprets the repositioning of the barn and the addition of holiday cottages. While the main features are highlighted, the development of some details is slightly imprecise and lacks complete clarity regarding layout changes.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response is arranged into four paragraphs, including an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs detailing the map changes. Cohesive devices are used to signal transitions (e.g., 'Overall', 'In 1950', 'On southern side'), though referencing is sometimes faulty, such as 'the sheep on the north side of the road covered by sheep', which creates confusing cohesion. Paragraphing is adequate and structures the comparison logically between the two time periods, but the overall progression is occasionally hampered by awkward phrasing and mechanical links.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully using terms relevant to map descriptions such as 'transformed', 'recreational', 'facilities', and 'adjacent'. However, there are notable spelling errors ('orginal', 'pannels', 'resodence') and awkward collocations or word choices ('the sheep... covered by sheep', 'road ends'). Less common lexical items are attempted but lack precision and accuracy, placing the response firmly in the Band 6 category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses ('that moved in the center') and passive constructions ('have been replaced', 'was occupied'). However, grammatical errors are frequent and occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement errors ('the pictures illustrates', 'the barn have been replaced'), missing articles ('there was track', 'added a farm shop'), and awkward prepositions or dangling modifiers ('On southern side of the road there has been added...'). These errors prevent the score from reaching Band 6.5.
