Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the task partially by attempting to describe the main changes between 1950 and today at Beechwood Farm. An overview is provided, noting that many developments occurred alongside some unchanged areas. However, some reported details contain inaccuracies, such as stating that 'soft fruits and vegetabels were identical in both maps' when their locations shifted, and mentioning that the road was completely identical despite the addition of an internal road. The selection of features is somewhat limited, and the lack of precise spatial reporting prevents the response from achieving a higher band. To improve, you should carefully compare both maps to ensure that all significant changes and constants are reported accurately without over-generalising features.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some basic organization with an introductory paragraph, an overview, and body paragraphs detailing specific areas of the farm. However, the progression of ideas lacks clear overall flow and logical sequencing, making the movement between locations feel slightly disjointed. Cohesive devices are used mechanically or are sometimes inaccurate, such as 'Moving further towards the remaining data' and 'in the second map one new place is added in this side it was a holiday cottages in the today'. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within paragraphs needs strengthening. To reach the next band, you should use a wider variety of transitional phrases naturally and ensure that referencing between sentences is clear and precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, with noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word formation that occasionally cause strain for the reader. Examples include 'ultranations' (alterations/transformations), 'devlopment', 'convated' (converted), and 'vegetabels'. The writer attempts some less common items like 'identical', but misuse of terms prevents precise communication. To improve lexical resource, you need to expand your range of vocabulary specifically suited to describing maps and changes over time, while paying close attention to accurate spelling and word forms, ensuring terms like 'cottages' and 'parking' are used correctly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple clauses and repetitive patterns. Attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, such as in the sentence 'After analyzingit can be clearly seen that in 1950, there was sheep area in the North East side, whereas it was convated into parking, solar panels and camping field in today.' There are frequent errors in verb forms, articles, prepositions, and punctuation, including missing spaces and incorrect verb tenses like 'The maps illustrates'. To improve your grammatical score, you should focus on increasing sentence variety, ensuring correct subject-verb agreement, and mastering articles and prepositions when describing spatial locations.
