Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially. While the student attempts to compare the 1950 map with the present-day plan, the overview is extremely fragmented and lacks a clear, coherent summary of the main trends. Some features are identified, such as the introduction of a farm shop, holiday cottages, and parking areas, alongside elements that remained unchanged like the soft fruits and vegetables. However, the ideas are limited, under-developed, and difficult to follow due to severe expression issues. The response attempts to cover key changes, but the lack of a proper overarching summary and logical progression keeps the task achievement at a basic level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

There is no clear overall progression or logical structure in this response. The text is written as a single dense block of sentences without proper paragraphing, and ideas jump erratically between different parts of the maps. Cohesive devices are largely absent or misused, resulting in mechanical and repetitive transitions (e.g., repeating 'today is become' and 'in the 1950'). Referencing is frequently unclear, making it very difficult for the reader to follow the spatial relationships between the old and new farm layouts. The lack of basic structural organization and cohesive links significantly impairs readability.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is very basic, limited, and repetitive. The student relies heavily on simple terms and struggles with accurate word choice, word form, and collocation (e.g., writing 'form shop' instead of 'farm shop', 'barm' instead of 'barn', and 'sercoles road'). There are frequent lexical errors and awkward phrasings throughout the text, such as 'growing the trees' or 'the place barn'. While the reader can occasionally piece together the intended meaning, the restricted lexical range and persistent word-choice inaccuracies restrict the response to a lower band level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying almost exclusively on faulty attempts at basic or complex sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors in almost every sentence, including incorrect verb tenses, missing or incorrect auxiliary verbs, faulty prepositions, and severe problems with word order and sentence boundaries (e.g., 'Former beechwood farm is today completely change in place different which fruits inside form shop'). Punctuation is also poorly handled, with run-on sentences and missing capitalization. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and reflect a weak control of basic grammatical patterns.
