Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by outlining the main changes between 1950 and the present day at Beechwood Farm. An overview is attempted in the second paragraph, noting that agricultural areas were demolished and new facilities introduced. However, some features are under-developed or less clearly reported, such as minor geographical inaccuracies (e.g., stating the river went from south to north in 1950 when it flows along the southern boundary). Despite these minor misinterpretations of spatial relationships, the core comparison is achieved, positioning the output comfortably within the middle bands where the main trends are covered, even if some details lack complete clarity or precision.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The text presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear division into an introduction, overview, and body paragraphs focusing on the two time periods. Progression is generally logical, moving from the past layout to present-day developments. However, cohesion is occasionally mechanical or faulty, seen in awkward transitions like 'Subsequently, river was presented' and repetitive sentence openings. Referencing is also at times unclear, such as the pronoun use or abrupt shifts between descriptions of agricultural plots. Paragraphing is utilized, but the internal linking of sentences needs smoother cohesive ties to achieve a higher level of flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
An adequate range of vocabulary is deployed for the task, successfully incorporating topic-specific terms like 'cultivated', 'demolished', 'facilities', and 'transformed'. Attempts at less common vocabulary are made, but they are accompanied by notable inaccuracies in word choice, form, and spelling, such as 'agriculture areas' instead of agricultural areas, 'caping field' instead of camping field, 'panals' instead of panels, and 'high-way'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they reflect a vocabulary profile that requires more control over word forms, derivatives, and standard collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over past and present tenses. However, there are frequent structural errors throughout the text, such as missing auxiliary verbs and copulas ('the farm undergone significantly changed', 'river was presented', 'track situated'), incorrect prepositions, and article omissions. While these errors are noticeable and detract from the overall polish of the writing, they rarely impede the reader's basic comprehension, allowing the core comparisons to remain understandable.
