Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the task by comparing the 1950 farm layout with the modern site, but the coverage is partial and lacks a clear overview. While some key changes are mentioned—such as the addition of the farm shop, camping field, solar panels, and holiday cottages—the reporting is disjointed and misses several important features like the parking areas and the evolution of the road network. Ideas are underdeveloped, and the lack of a proper introductory summary or concluding overview restricts the response. To reach a higher level, you should ensure all major spatial changes are reported and present a clear overview statement outlining the main overall transformation of the site.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The text shows some basic organisation in attempting to separate the description of the past from the present, but there is no clear overall progression. The writing is structured as a series of dense, unstructured blocks of text rather than distinct paragraphs. Cohesive devices are largely absent or inadequate, with excessive use of run-on phrases and comma splices like 'so there is road on north corner also connection of a river a track attach with road...'. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult to follow spatial relationships across the maps. Improving paragraphing and using clear cohesive markers such as 'In 1950,' 'Conversely,' and 'In contrast' would significantly enhance the logical flow of the report.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Vocabulary usage is limited and basic, with frequent lexical and spelling errors that occasionally impede understanding, such as 'addiotion', 'remain same', 'enterence', 'chage', 'form shop', and 'sheeps' instead of sheep. The range of vocabulary is barely adequate to describe the maps, relying on repetitive descriptions like 'some things' and 'other side'. Less common vocabulary is attempted unsuccessfully or with incorrect word forms. To improve lexical resource, you should focus on accurate spelling, correct word forms, and incorporating precise geographical and structural vocabulary suited to describing map transformations, such as 'replaced by', 'situated in the northern sector', and 'converted into'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of fragmented phrases, incomplete clauses, and minor lists rather than fully formed sentences. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tense consistency, prepositions, and articles, such as omitting essential verbs like 'is' or 'are' in statements like 'there is road on north corner' and 'on the opposite side big ground for ships'. Complex sentence structures are rarely attempted, and where multi-clause structures appear, they are often faulty. To improve, focus on constructing complete sentences with a subject and a verb, maintaining consistent present and past tenses when comparing different time periods, and reducing frequent punctuation errors.
