Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response falls short of the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, coming in at 145 words. Consequently, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and brief. While the writer manages to identify several main features of the changes—such as the addition of parking areas, holiday cottages, solar panels, and a farm shop—the comparison between the 1950 plan and the current map is only partially achieved. The overview attempts to capture the general transformation, but it lacks sufficient extension and detail. To reach a higher band, the writer must ensure the word count requirement is fully met and provide a more fully developed, comprehensive comparison of the spatial changes, ensuring that all key features are elaborated with greater clarity and precision.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The text displays some basic organization, using transition phrases like 'To begin with' and 'Furthermore' to structure the response. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression, and the paragraphing is underdeveloped, resulting in a slightly disjointed flow. Cohesive devices are sometimes used mechanically or inaccurately, and referencing is not always clear (for example, in sentences like 'Barn house is also been added in today design where the both roads can join each other'). To improve Coherence and Cohesion, the writer needs to ensure logical sequencing between sentences, avoid abrupt shifts in topic, and apply cohesive devices more flexibly and naturally to create a smoother, more unified structure throughout the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey basic features such as 'parking', 'solar panels', and 'holiday cottages'. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies, awkward word choices, and spelling errors, such as 'campared' instead of compared, 'beech-wood' instead of Beechwood, 'hollidays' instead of holiday, and 'solar plates' instead of solar panels. The range of vocabulary is limited, and attempts to use less common items lead to inaccuracies that occasionally distract the reader. To achieve a higher band, the writer should expand their lexical repertoire, utilize precise topic-specific terminology without spelling errors, and demonstrate greater control over word choice and collocation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response employs a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple constructions, while attempts at more complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors in verb forms, articles, and prepositions, such as 'It is clear seen' instead of 'It is clearly seen', 'Barn house is also been added' instead of 'A barn has also been added', and 'where they can rest and cooked their foods' instead of 'cook their food'. Punctuation and spacing issues are also present, such as missing spaces after commas (e.g., 'Furthermore, there'). These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve, the writer must practice forming complex sentences accurately, pay closer attention to verb tense consistency, and eliminate basic grammatical slips.
