Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response presents an overview with information for both 1950 and today, noting key changes such as the addition of parking, camping fields, holiday cottages, and a farm shop, while mentioning that soft fruits, vegetables, chickens, and the farmhouse remained. However, the development of these ideas is limited and somewhat mechanical. The description misses some specific spatial relationships and precise feature reporting, such as the exact relocation of the barn and the addition of solar panels. It addresses the task only partially, as the selection of features lacks full expansion, keeping the response at this band level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some basic organisation with paragraphs attempting an introduction, body details, and a conclusion. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas, and the logical flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed. Cohesive devices are used minimally and somewhat repetitively, such as the repeated use of 'There is' and 'We can see'. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal referencing and transitions between the overview and detailed body points are clumsy, which prevents the writing from achieving a more fluid structure.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. The writer relies heavily on basic terms and repeats common words like 'section', 'farm', and 'area'. There are notable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'diferent' instead of 'different', 'happend' instead of 'happened', 'friuts' instead of 'fruits', and 'Fram' instead of 'Farm'. Attempts at less common vocabulary are generally inaccurate or constrained by spelling slips, which occasionally causes some difficulty for the reader and keeps the score at this level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer uses a limited range of sentence structures, primarily relying on simple sentences and basic complex forms, which are often faulty when attempted. There are frequent errors in grammar, articles, and punctuation. Examples include capitalization issues ('We' mid-sentence), incorrect prepositions ('added in the fruit trees' instead of 'among the fruit trees' or 'near the fruit trees'), and subject-verb agreement slips ('soft friuts and vegetables remains constant'). These frequent errors can cause occasional difficulty for the reader.
