Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features and making comparisons between the two maps of Beechwood Farm. However, some ideas are under-developed or unclear. For instance, the mention of the sheep area being replaced by a camping field and solar panels is somewhat disjointed. The overview highlights key transformations such as the track upgrading to a road and the introduction of a farm shop and holiday cottages, which satisfies the requirement for a general summary. To reach a higher level, the student should provide a more fully developed selection of details, ensuring that spatial changes are described with greater clarity and precision without drifting into vague assertions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at paragraphing, separating the introduction, overview, and specific body details. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical, and referencing is not always clear. For example, expressions like 'Both of these also have there on different parking place' create confusing links between ideas. Logical progression between sentences occasionally breaks down, such as abruptly shifting from the camping field to the barn relocation. To improve, the writer needs to employ smoother cohesive devices and clearer referencing words to guide the reader effortlessly through the spatial comparisons.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, but there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and spelling errors that prevent a higher score. Words such as 'varitation', 'settelment', 'knows', 'bran', 'builded', 'feild', 'repaced', 'corener', and 'vetetables' demonstrate persistent spelling and word-form issues. While the student attempts less common vocabulary ('significant changes', 'upgraded', 'established'), the presence of these errors means the lexical control is limited. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their control of accurate word formation and precise spelling, ensuring that everyday and task-specific terms are rendered correctly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but grammatical accuracy is hindered by frequent structural slips. Examples of errors include 'The area which was knows as sheep', 'the location of bran is shifted', and 'soft fruits are they remain the same form 1950 and today'. Article usage, prepositions, and verb patterns (such as passive voice construction and tense consistency) show persistent weaknesses, though they rarely impede overall communication. To progress, the student needs to demonstrate better control over complex sentence structures and eliminate basic agreement and verb-form errors.
