Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the task only partially. While it attempts to report the main features of the maps, the selection of information is limited and some descriptions are unclear or confusing. For instance, stating that the sheep farm transformed into electricity production refers to the solar panels, but this detail is awkwardly expressed. The overview is weak, containing vague references such as 'transformed into an electricity production and also two parking and also changed it with camping field'. While certain persisting features like the farmhouse and fruit trees are correctly identified as remaining in the same place, the overall development of ideas is limited, preventing the response from achieving a higher level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is some organisation in the response, but it lacks a clear overall progression. The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical flow between sentences is frequently disrupted by mechanical or inadequate cohesive devices, such as repetitive use of 'and also' and disjointed transition phrases like 'First of all' and 'The two maps depict the changing'. Referencing can also be unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial relationships between the features on the maps. To improve, the writer needs to structure the comparison logically, grouping features by location or theme and using smoother, more accurate cohesive links.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and basic, with noticeable errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'renovation', 'recreational place', and 'solar panels', but these are often accompanied by word choice and collocation inaccuracies, as seen in phrases like 'the strategies under illustrates' instead of 'The maps below illustrate', or 'warehouse replaced with the recreational place'. Spelling is generally acceptable, but the overall lexical range restricts the precision needed to describe map transformations effectively. Developing a wider bank of topographical and comparative vocabulary is essential for progress.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, with frequent grammatical errors that can cause difficulty for the reader. Simple structures dominate, and attempts at more complex sentences are often faulty, as demonstrated in 'behind the new parking located on Northeast side they made solar panels and also grew few trees, and it also change with camps.' There are frequent errors in prepositions ('on Northeast side', 'with a time'), articles ('the two maps describe the renovation'), and verb forms and active/passive voice ('it also change with camps', 'the sheep farm area transformed'). Punctuation is also basic and occasionally intrusive, hindering the clarity of the text.
