Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all parts of the prompt by presenting an overview of the main changes and selecting key features to compare between 1950 and the present day. You adequately report the transformation of the sheep area into solar panels and a camping field, the construction of parking spaces, and the addition of the farm shop, holiday cottages, and new roads. However, some details are slightly inaccurate or under-developed, such as the repositioning of the barn and the precise spatial relationships between the old and new structures, which prevents the response from reaching a higher level. Overall, the main trends are clearly highlighted, and the general features are appropriately covered.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, an overview paragraph, and body paragraphs that group related developments logically. You make use of cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Moreover', and 'Additionally' to guide the reader through the various changes. However, referencing and cohesion can sometimes feel slightly mechanical or repetitive in sentence openings. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different areas of the farm, but a more seamless flow between sentences would help elevate the organizational structure to the next tier.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing you to describe features like 'solar panels', 'camping field', 'holiday cottages', and 'farm shop'. You attempt less common vocabulary and phraseology, but there are noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'reconstucted' (reconstructed), 'sheeps' (sheep), and 'Additonally' (Additionally). Furthermore, phrases like 'in today's time of the same site' are unnatural. To achieve a higher band, you need to use a wider range of precise lexical items consistently with fewer spelling and word-choice slips.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as relative clauses and passive voice constructions ('were added', 'were constructed'). However, there are some noticeable grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'where many facilities were added and some of them converted, while few of them were demolished' and 'the area where sheeps were held was converted into two different sections; where half of it was added with solar panels'. Preposition use and clause structures require tighter control, though these errors rarely impede overall communication.
