Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response achieves a minimal overview of the changes, noting the conversion of sheep areas into camping and parking facilities, and identifying that soft fruits and vegetables remained unchanged. However, the response only partially addresses the task requirements. Several details are vague or inaccurate, such as stating that 'the area of soft fruits and vegetables are both same' while misinterpreting other significant spatial developments like the addition of holiday cottages, the farm shop, and solar panels. Ideas are limited and under-developed, with repetitive comparisons rather than a well-rounded summary of the main features shown on the maps.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The information and ideas are not arranged coherently. The response lacks a clear overall progression and logical structure, jumping between different parts of the plans without a smooth transition. Paragraphing is absent, as the text is clumped into two dense blocks that fail to separate the introduction, body details, and overview clearly. Cohesive devices are minimal, mechanical, and frequently repetitive, using phrases like 'But in today plan' repeatedly. Referencing is also weak, leading to confusion regarding which areas are being compared across the two temporal phases.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, heavily relying on prompts and simple terms such as 'portion', 'area', 'wide', and 'narrow'. There are notable word choice and collocation issues throughout the text, including awkward phrasing like 'few today' instead of 'today' and 'adusted' instead of 'adjusted'. Spelling errors and incorrect word forms further limit the lexical range, creating strain for the reader. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'noticable point' and 'Futhermore', but these are marred by inaccuracies and do not convey precise meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on basic, repetitive sentence patterns that are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in article usage, pluralisation, verb forms, and prepositions, such as 'In first plan some portion have wide area' and 'due to change the the place of Barn portion'. Subject-verb agreement is frequently broken, and awkward phrasing leads to convoluted clauses that obscure the intended meaning. Frequent errors in grammar and punctuation cause difficulty for the reader throughout the text.
