Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response covers all parts of the task and successfully outlines the primary changes between 1950 and the present day at Beechwood Farm. The overview clearly highlights the major transformation from an agricultural site into one with various new commercial and leisure facilities, such as the camping field and holiday cottages. However, some details are slightly inaccurate according to the visual data, such as claiming the barn was relocated from the eastern side when it was actually repositioned elsewhere. Additionally, some ideas regarding which features remained unchanged lack complete precision, as certain aspects were shifted or adapted. To reach a higher level, the response needs more precise reporting of spatial changes and consistent accuracy in detailing every feature without minor contradictions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The text presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from an introductory overview to specific developments and new facilities in subsequent paragraphs. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different thematic areas of the farm. Cohesive devices are employed to link ideas, such as 'Overall,' 'In terms of infrastructure,' and 'Conversely,' although some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive in structure. Referencing is generally clear, though occasional lapses in logical flow prevent it from achieving a fully seamless progression. To improve further, the writer should use a wider variety of cohesive ties and ensure smoother transitions between sentences and paragraphs.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'transformation,' 'infrastructure,' and 'commercial amenities.' However, there are notable lexical inaccuracies and spelling errors, such as 'firm' instead of 'farm,' 'notable chages,' and 'pannels.' Word choice and collocation are occasionally awkward, such as 'filled with several facilities there' or 'farm shops has been introduced.' These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they restrict the score. To attain a higher band, the writer must expand the range of vocabulary, improve precision in word choice, and eliminate basic spelling and word-form mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like relative clauses and prepositional phrases. There are instances of good grammatical control, but also several errors in punctuation, subject-verb agreement, and articles. Examples include 'map of a firm which is redeveloped and made comparison,' 'tracks are converted into roads ,' and 'farm shops has been introduced.' Punctuation errors, such as spaces before commas, also occur. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, but they are frequent enough to hold the score at this level. To improve, the writer needs to enhance control over complex sentence structures, check verb-noun agreements carefully, and refine punctuation.
