Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the task partially by attempting to describe the changes between 1950 and today. However, the selection of information is limited and some details are inaccurately reported. For instance, the text states that 'Barn and chickens were the main products of the farmhouse' and that 'holiday cottages also installled in farm hous around chickens farm', which misinterprets the layout and features of the farm maps. There is an attempt to provide an overview at the end stating that the farm has more facilities now, but key features such as the conversion of land into a camping field, the addition of a farm shop, and the installation of solar panels are only briefly mentioned without sufficient development or precise comparative reporting. To reach a higher level, the response needs to systematically select and report the most significant features, ensuring all descriptions accurately reflect the visual data without misinterpreting farm structures as products.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response shows some basic organization, beginning with an introduction, moving through descriptions of the past and present layouts, and concluding with a brief summary statement. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the text lacks proper paragraphing, being written as a single dense block of text. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, or inaccurate, such as relying heavily on simple transitions like 'In 1950' and 'In today', the latter of which is grammatically awkward. Referencing is also at times unclear, making it difficult to follow the logical development of ideas. To improve coherence and cohesion, the text should be divided into logical paragraphs separating the introduction, overview, past features, and present developments, while using a wider and more accurate range of cohesive ties to connect ideas smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. The student attempts some topic-specific terms such as 'vegetables', 'fruits', 'barn', and 'solar pannels', but there are noticeable spelling errors ('accompaind' attempted as 'accompaind', 'pannels', 'sllots', 'ans') and awkward word choices or collocations, such as 'significant improvements occur in various sector' and 'holiday cottages also installled in farm hous'. The repetitive use of basic nouns and verbs restricts the precision needed to describe map transformations effectively. To achieve a higher band score, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire to include more precise vocabulary for describing spatial changes, such as 'replaced by', 'converted into', 'extended', and 'situated', while ensuring correct spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The grammatical range is quite limited, relying mostly on simple sentences with occasional attempts at more complex structures, which are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in verb tenses, such as mixing past and present references inconsistently ('farm which was in 1950', 'It is irrigeated', 'there are significant improvements occur'). Additionally, errors appear in prepositions, article usage, and singular/plural agreement, such as 'on the bank of river', 'a farmis', 'parking sllots', and 'around chickens farm'. These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve, the student should focus on maintaining consistent and accurate tense control when comparing past and present states, improving sentence variety, and mastering basic grammatical patterns such as articles and prepositions.
