Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response makes an attempt to present an overview of the changes to Beechwood Farm between 1950 and today, but the coverage is only partial. While some key features like the agricultural plots, fruit trees, and new facilities such as the shop, solar panels, and camping field are mentioned, the information is presented in a very limited and repetitive way. The overview is weak, stating only that the farm had 'less facilities in past years' without clearly summarising the main overall trends. Furthermore, specific details from the visual data are under-developed or imprecise, such as mentioning that 'Bran change the place into holiday cottages', which is inaccurate regarding the original barn and the newly built cottages. The response satisfies the minimum word count requirement, but overall the task is addressed only partially, placing it squarely at this level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The text shows some basic organisation with an attempt at paragraphing, separating the introduction, overview, and body details. However, there is no clear overall progression or logical flow between sentences. Cohesive devices are either missing, inadequate, or repetitive, making the text disjointed. For instance, transitional phrases like 'In past day 1950', 'However, in recent day', and 'At last' are used mechanically and inaccurately. Referencing is also faulty, with unclear pronouns and vague expressions such as 'the things which was in past in present day those things is change in develop way'. Paragraphs are poorly structured, and the overall arrangement lacks the logical progression required to guide the reader smoothly through the comparison of the two maps.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, barely meeting the minimum requirements for the task. The student relies on basic, general words such as 'facilities', 'things', 'change', and 'develop' repeatedly throughout the response, rather than utilizing precise vocabulary related to maps, changes, or agriculture. There are noticeable lexical errors, incorrect word forms, and awkward collocations that cause difficulty for the reader, such as 'well-facilities farm', 'less develop', and 'recent day'. Spelling and word choice inaccuracies, like 'Bran change the place' instead of the barn being replaced or converted, further demonstrate a restricted lexical range that struggles to convey precise meanings about the spatial and structural alterations on the farm.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical range is severely limited, consisting mainly of simple sentences and faulty attempts at complex structures. There are frequent errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, articles, and prepositions throughout the text. Examples include 'The farm is set has under substantial change', 'It become well-facilities farm', 'beechwood farm was less develop', and 'Track are built into a road'. These frequent errors often impede communication and cause difficulty for the reader in understanding the precise meaning of the sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistently handled. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of complex sentence structures and significantly improve grammatical accuracy by reducing basic structural errors.
