Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the main features of the task by identifying several key changes and continuities between the 1950 map and the current day plan. However, coverage is only partial and some features are described inaccurately or unclearly. For example, the statement that 'holiday cottages occupy the space of burn' misinterprets the spatial changes, and some details are under-developed or confusingly phrased, such as 'the triangular roundabout of the track at penultimate'. While an overview is attempted, it lacks clarity in places and focuses on a limited selection of details, preventing a fully developed comparison between the two time periods.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response demonstrates some overall organization with the use of introductory and overview sections, but there is a lack of clear progression throughout the body paragraphs. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as 'Although, the road build instead of track' and 'While holiday cottages occupy the space of burn in current day', which disrupts the logical flow. Paragraphing is attempted, but referencing between sentences and ideas is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial relationships described.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, containing noticeable errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. There are several word choice and spelling errors, such as 'current day' instead of 'the present day', 'soft trees' instead of 'soft fruits', 'burn' instead of 'barn', and 'demostrate' instead of 'account for' or 'cover'. Attempts to use less common vocabulary are generally inaccurate, and repetition of basic terms like 'site' and 'road' restricts the lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response relies on a limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex forms are frequently faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors in verb forms, voice, and prepositions, such as 'are remain same till today', 'the road build instead of track', and 'Farm shop newly add'. Punctuation and article usage are also weak throughout the text. These frequent errors cause strain for the reader and indicate a lack of control over basic and complex grammatical structures.
