Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by outlining the main changes and comparisons between the 1950 Beechwood farm plan and the layout today. It presents a clear overall overview of the primary transformations, such as the conversion of the sheep area into a camping field and the addition of solar panels and parking. However, some aspects are under-developed or lack full clarity. For instance, the description of the southern structures becomes somewhat muddled when discussing the relocation of the barn and holiday cottages. Extending these specific details with greater precision would elevate the task response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The report maintains a coherent overall arrangement, featuring an introductory paragraph, an overview, and a main body paragraph detailing the transformations. Information is generally ordered logically, allowing the reader to follow the spatial changes from north to south. Nevertheless, cohesion is occasionally mechanical or faulty. The use of transitional markers like 'However' and 'Although' is sometimes repetitive or slightly awkward in context, such as starting consecutive sentences with contrasting conjunctions. Referencing could also be sharpened to ensure smoother transitions between the old features and the updated layout.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, attempting less common terms such as 'converted', 'installation', and 'replaces'. However, there are some noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word form. For instance, writing 'the changes which are made today' or stating that features 'remain at thr same place' (with a spelling slip) detracts from precision. Furthermore, terms like 'farm shop has been built on this field' show a slightly limited collocational range. These vocabulary errors do not impede communication, but they prevent the writing from achieving a higher lexical band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and passive constructions such as 'solar panels were also installed' and 'has been converted'. There are several errors in grammar, punctuation, and article use, including missing plural markers ('camping field' instead of 'camping fields') and tense inconsistencies. For example, 'the changes which are made today' mixes past and present timeframes awkwardly, and 'garden hasn't changed and it remain at the same place' contains subject-verb agreement errors. Despite these slips, the errors rarely impede communication and sentence boundaries are generally maintained.
