Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by presenting an overview of the main changes between 1950 and the present day. Key features, such as the replacement of the sheep area with a camping field and solar panels, and the relocation of the barn, are reported adequately. However, some aspects are slightly under-developed or imprecise, such as misinterpreting the dates from the prompt (writing '1995' instead of '1950') and minor inaccuracies in describing spatial relationships. To reach a higher level, the response would need a more fully extended overview and completely accurate representation of all visual data elements without chronological slips.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The text maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure separating the introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. Information is generally ordered logically, moving from the past layout to present-day modifications. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty due to awkward referencing and transitional phrases. For instance, sentences within the body paragraphs lack smooth linking devices to guide the reader effortlessly through the spatial comparisons. Improving the variety and precision of cohesive ties would elevate the organizational flow of the essay.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the main features of the maps with terms like 'installation', 'renewable energy source', and 'relocated'. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies, inappropriate word choices, and spelling slips, such as writing 'penal' instead of 'panel' and 'remained in change' instead of 'remained unchanged'. Attempts to use less common vocabulary sometimes result in collocation errors. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to demonstrate greater precision in word choice, eliminate spelling errors, and incorporate more sophisticated phrasing naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, but it is limited in structural range and contains frequent grammatical errors. Issues include missing articles ('in north-east', 'to road'), incorrect prepositions ('in change'), and awkward passive constructions. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent enough to restrict the response to a lower band. To improve, the writer needs to practice complex sentence structures while ensuring better control over basic grammatical accuracy, particularly subject-verb agreement and article usage.
