Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement, containing only 99 words (excluding copied text) against the required 150 words. Furthermore, the task is addressed only minimally. The student attempts to contrast the 1950 Beechwood Farm with the current layout, mentioning additions like a farm shop, camping field, and solar panels. However, the description is extremely sketchy, tangential, and poorly developed. There is no clear overview of the overall changes, and many details are either confusing or inaccurately reported. To improve, the writer must expand the response past the minimum word count, structure a clear introduction with an overview, and accurately report the main features and comparisons shown in the diagrams.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
Information and ideas are not arranged coherently, reflecting a low band for this criterion. The text is broken into short, fragmented paragraphs and sentences that lack logical sequencing and overall progression. Transitional phrases and cohesive devices are either missing or misused, such as the abrupt transition in the second paragraph ('Overall, the beachwood farm in 1950 realivently showed that difference betwwen today'). Pronoun referencing and substitution are weak, making it difficult for the reader to follow which areas of the farm are being discussed. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to group related information logically, use clear paragraphing (such as separating the overview from the body details), and employ a wider range of appropriate cohesive devices to connect sentences smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and heavily reliant on direct lifting or awkward paraphrasing from the prompt, such as repeating 'beachwood', 'farm', 'upgrated', and 'today'. There are frequent word-choice errors, incorrect word forms (e.g., 'realivently', 'devlopnment', 'upgrated', 'oppurtunity', 'pannels', 'cottageb'), and spelling mistakes that occasionally strain the reader's comprehension. The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate at best. To lift the score, the writer must expand their vocabulary to include precise terms for spatial changes (e.g., 'converted', 'replaced', 'demolished', 'extended') and eliminate spelling and morphological errors through careful proofreading.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentence structures with frequent errors that distort meaning and impede communication. There are severe issues with subject-verb agreement, missing verbs (e.g., 'The diagram shows that the site of beachwood farm in 1950 and the same site today'), incorrect prepositions, and improper sentence boundaries. Punctuation is also neglected, with missing periods and commas. Complex sentences are rarely attempted, and when simple structures are used, they contain frequent basic errors. To improve, the writer must focus on mastering fundamental sentence construction, ensuring every sentence contains a main verb, and reducing errors in tense and agreement.
