Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response attempts to describe the main changes between 1950 and today, providing an overview and some specific comparisons. However, the information is partially inaccurate and confused. For instance, the text claims that 'in 1950 the southeast part of the beechwood contained holiday cottages', whereas the original map shows holiday cottages were added today, and the barn was converted. Additionally, several key features are misreported, such as the location of the farm shop and the status of various buildings. The detail is limited and lacks sufficient clarity, meaning the response addresses the prompt only partially, resulting in an underdeveloped and occasionally inaccurate overview of the visual data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation attempted through paragraphing, but the overall progression of information is unclear and difficult to follow. The introduction of features lacks logical grouping, jumping somewhat haphazardly between past and present details in the overview paragraph. Cohesive devices are used mechanically or inaccurately (such as repetitive use of 'in addition' and 'also'), and referencing is sometimes faulty, making it hard to track whether elements belong to 1950 or today. Paragraphing boundaries are present, but the internal logical flow within paragraphs requires significant improvement to guide the reader smoothly through the spatial and temporal changes.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task, with noticeable errors that occasionally impede understanding. There are several spelling and word-form errors, such as 'smaak' instead of 'small', 'sokar' instead of 'solar', and awkward phrasing like 'considerable urbanization' to describe changes on a farm. Attempts to use less common vocabulary are often inaccurate in terms of word choice and collocation (e.g., stating that certain features 'are remain unchanged'). While the writer manages to name some map features correctly, the overall lexical range restricts the precision needed for a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple sentences and faulty attempts at complex constructions. Frequent grammatical errors occur throughout the text, including missing or incorrect articles (e.g., 'the beechwood farm', 'by road'), tense and passive voice inaccuracies (e.g., 'the most notable development were', 'track is converted into road', 'chickens are remain unchanged'), and faulty prepositional use. Punctuation and capitalization are also inconsistent, with lower-case letters beginning sentences and proper nouns. These frequent errors cause noticeable difficulty for the reader and reflect a weak control over basic and complex grammatical forms.
