Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by selecting and reporting the main features of Beechwood Farm in 1950 and comparing them with current developments. An overview is provided in the second paragraph, outlining the overall modernization from agricultural land to diverse commercial and recreational facilities. Key changes, such as the replacement of the sheep field with a camping area and parking, and the conversion of the track into a road, are clearly reported. However, some areas lack precision, such as stating the old barn became a holiday cottage when the visual data shows holiday cottages placed separately near the eastbound road while the barn moved to a new location. This minor confusion keeps the task response at the current level, as ideas are generally relevant but occasionally slightly under-developed or imprecise regarding exact spatial transformations.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response exhibits a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure consisting of an introduction, an overview, a description of the past map, and a description of the present map. Logical progression is evident as the writer moves chronologically from 1950 to the present day. Cohesive devices are employed to connect ideas, such as "In 1950," "On the present day," and "Overall." However, cohesion can feel somewhat mechanical, and referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as ambiguous pronoun use. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two different time periods, contributing to an overall clear structure, though more flexible cohesive linking between sentences would be required for a higher band.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating an attempt to discuss map features using appropriate terminology such as "modernization," "facilities," "junction," and "solar panels." However, there are numerous lexical inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word form, such as "is undergone" instead of "has undergone," "coverd" instead of "covered," "track roach" instead of "track," "fruite trees" instead of "fruit trees," "camping filed" instead of "camping field," "are took place" instead of "were installed" or "were built," "opnen" instead of "open," and "nera" instead of "near." These spelling and word-form errors, along with unnatural collocations, reflect a limited yet minimally adequate lexical range where errors do not severely impede overall communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response shows a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like passive voice ("is now coverd by," "is replaced by") and relative clauses. However, control of grammar is inconsistent, featuring frequent errors in verb tense, voice, articles, and prepositions. Examples include "how a Beechwood Farm was looking" instead of "how Beechwood Farm looked," "in can be seen" instead of "it can be seen," "is undergone" instead of "has undergone," "track road converted into road" missing necessary articles and verbs, and "Solar panels are took place in with separate parking." Punctuation and agreement errors also occur. These frequent grammatical errors represent a pattern typical of a restricted range where complex sentence attempts are frequently faulty, though meaning remains understandable.
