Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Two pictures have been given to draw a comparison of a Beechwood Farm site showing how it looked in1950 and what changes have been made in the site till today.

Overall, Farm shop, Parking, Camping fields and Holiday cottages are developed in the site as compared to the past.

To begin with, in 1950 there was a track in the site but now a road has been built. There were Fruit trees, Soft fruits and Vegetables respectively along the river side in 1950. In addition, now a Farm shop has been built near the Fruit trees. Furthermore, Holiday cottages have taken place of a Barn and that has been shifted after the Vegetables corner, however Chickens and Farmhouse have stayed on the same place.

Moreover, a significant area of the Farm had place for sheeps solely in the past. In contrast, now solar panels have been installed on the top right side and a Parking space has been built along with road. Additionally, another parking area is available now parallel to the Farm shop and two Camping feilds have also been built in the middle.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by providing a clear overview and reporting the main features of Beechwood Farm between 1950 and today. Key transformations are highlighted, such as the addition of the farm shop, camping fields, and holiday cottages replacing the old barn, alongside the conversion of the sheep area into solar panels and parking spaces. The general progression from past to present is well covered, though certain comparisons could have been slightly more extended or integrated to fully reach the highest levels of development. Nevertheless, the selection of information is accurate and directly reflects the visual data provided.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The text maintains a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical path from an introductory overview to specific spatial details of the past and present layouts. Paragraphing is used to separate the introduction, the general overview, and the detailed body points. Cohesive devices are employed to guide the reader through the comparison, using phrases like 'To begin with', 'In addition', 'Furthermore', and 'In contrast'. While the organization is clear and progression is visible, some of the linking between sentences feels slightly mechanical, which prevents the essay from achieving a more fluid organizational style.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to successfully describe buildings, agricultural features, and modern additions. There are attempts to incorporate less common items and specific map-reading vocabulary, such as 'significant area', 'shifted', and 'installed'. However, there are notable word choice and spelling inaccuracies, such as 'feilds' instead of 'fields' and awkward phrasing like 'taken place of a barn' and 'sheeps'. Some expressions reflect literal translations or slight collocation slips, though meaning remains generally clear and communication is not severely impeded.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, incorporating passive voice forms and prepositional phrases to describe location changes accurately. Grammatical control is mixed: while many basic structures are handled correctly, there are noticeable errors in prepositions and articles, such as 'on the same place' instead of 'in the same place' and 'along with road' instead of 'along the road'. Punctuation and verb tense shifts between the past descriptions and present state are generally manageable, but the persistence of these structural slips keeps the accuracy level confined to mixed control.
