Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The given map illustrates the information about the changes in beechwood farm between 1950 and 2026.
Overall, new shops and roads added and some replaced, while some facilities remained constant at same place.
In 1950, there were three shops of fruit tress, soft tress and vegetables just after road. Sheep area was in the right corner and there was track beside the shops. Moreover, barn and farmhouse were in the opposite direction in the south east direction, while chickens were right next to the farmhouse. River was passing oppposite the track.
Moving further to the present time, that three shops are at same place but the farm shpo has been added in the top corner of fruit trees, while track is converted into the road. Barn is replaced with holiday cottages but the farmhouse and chickens are at same place. The parking area is constructed next to the road and sheep area has been demolished and replaced in solar panels. a camping field has been constructed and the river is at same place.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the broad change from a working farm to a site with visitor facilities, and you note that the river, farmhouse and chicken enclosure remain. These are relevant features. However, some key details are inaccurate: the three agricultural plots are fields, not “shops,” and the barn remains on the plan rather than being replaced by holiday cottages. The sheep area is replaced by a camping field, while solar panels are added in the north-east; these changes are confused in your account. The overview also says facilities were “replaced” without clearly distinguishing what stayed and what changed. To strengthen the response, describe the main transformations accurately and compare the locations of the new facilities with the 1950 layout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for 1950 and today. Time markers such as “In 1950” and “Moving further to the present time” help the reader follow the comparison, and the ideas are generally grouped by period. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent overall arrangement. Some connections are less clear, however: “that three shops are at same place” is difficult to interpret, and “Barn is replaced with holiday cottages” makes the relationship between these features confusing. The overview is also broad rather than a useful guide to the details. Use clearer references and organise the body around areas or types of change, linking each new feature to its former location.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “constructed,” “converted,” “replaced,” and “remained,” and you attempt to describe location and change. However, the range is limited and several word choices are inaccurate or unnatural for this task. Calling the fields “shops” changes their meaning, while “fruit tress” and “soft tress” appear to be misspellings or misidentifications. Phrases such as “in the opposite direction in the south east direction” are repetitive and imprecise, and “river was passing opposite the track” does not clearly describe its position. Aim for accurate labels and standard map language such as “to the south of,” “adjacent to,” and “was retained.” Proofread spelling and avoid repeating the same location term.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple statements and longer sentences, including clauses joined with “while,” “and,” and “but.” The main meaning is usually recoverable, which is a strength. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with articles, verb forms and sentence construction. For example, “new shops and roads added” needs a passive verb (“were added”), and “that three shops are at same place” needs a determiner and clearer tense (“the three fields remain in the same locations”). The sentence beginning “Moreover” also combines several comparisons in a way that makes the relationships hard to follow. Capitalisation is inconsistent in “a camping field.” Practise accurate passive forms for map changes and check articles and tense consistency when comparing past and present.
