Student answer (Band 6.0)
The given pictures illustrates how Beechwood Farm have changed over the period of time.
Overall, there are two pictures of Beechwood Farm, one is from the 1950 and other is based on current day. However, there are different changes that occurred over the period but the major changes are done on the sheep area.
The changes that occurred on the buildings were, now with fruit trees there is a small farm shop, whereas soft fruits, vegetables, farmhouse, chickens areas have not changed over the years. In addition, there is a barn which is connected by two roads, and the barn which was near the road is now converted into a holiday cottages.
Now the sheep area which is converted into different parts. There are two parking areas one is connected to main road and other is connected farm road. Furthermore, there are two main areas in this part one is the camping field which covers the half of sheep area and on the other half there is solar panels, both parts have their own parking areas.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the two time periods and give an overview that the sheep area underwent major change, then describe several new uses there, including camping and solar panels. You also note the farm shop and holiday cottages, so the response covers important developments. However, some comparisons are inaccurate or unclear: the fruit trees, soft-fruit and vegetable plots remain in place, rather than the farm shop being “with fruit trees”; the barn has not been converted into cottages, as the cottages are south of the eastern road while the barn remains elsewhere on the site. The claim that the camping field covers half the former sheep area is not established by the plan. Develop the overview around the main changes and describe the retained features and new facilities more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing changes. This gives the reader a basic progression from general change to buildings and then the former sheep area. Some linking is also attempted through “Overall,” “In addition,” and “Furthermore.” However, the overview repeats that there are two pictures without summarising the main changes, and the body paragraphs group features in ways that make relationships difficult to follow. For example, “the barn which was near the road is now converted into a holiday cottages” combines two separate locations and changes. References such as “this part” and “both parts” are also unclear. Organise the details by area and use clearer location-based links between features.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant map vocabulary, including “parking areas,” “camping field,” “solar panels,” and “holiday cottages,” which helps communicate the main developments. There is some variety in phrases such as “connected by two roads” and “covers the half.” However, several expressions are imprecise or unnatural for describing a site plan. “The changes that occurred on the buildings” is vague, while “different parts” and “this part” do not identify the areas clearly. “Converted into” incorrectly suggests that the barn itself became cottages, and “covers the half” is an awkward collocation. Aim for precise location language and natural map-description phrases, such as “is situated south of” or “was replaced by,” using the latter only when the plan supports replacement.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast with “whereas” and a clause beginning “which covers the half.” The main meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. The opening has subject–verb and tense problems: “pictures illustrates” and “farm have changed” should use plural agreement and a suitable present perfect form. The overview’s “one is from the 1950 and other is based on current day” needs articles and more accurate time phrasing. There are also errors in number and sentence construction, such as “a holiday cottages” and the fragment-like “Now the sheep area which is converted…” Use complete sentences, check singular/plural agreement, and keep past and present forms consistent when comparing the plans.
