Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The diagrams below illustrates site of the farm called Beechwood Farm. The first diagram shows how the farm was in 1950 while the diagram which is next to first diagram depicts the current situation of the farm.
In 1950 farm was consist of 4 main sections, first section was consist of fruit trees and the section next to it was called soft fruits the third section was for vegetables and the fourth and last section was consist of barn, farmhouse and chickens. On the left side of it there was a river streaming below the road and passes through all four sections of the farm while on the right side there was a track with a triangular conjection near farmhouse. On other side of track there was an area called sheep for livestocks.
There are lots of changes happened in the today's site if we compare it to the 1950s map.First of all fruit secction is upgraded and new farm shop is added in the corner next to road while soft fruits and vegetables section is same as it was in 1950 but the fourth section have lots of changes for example barn is replaced by holiday cottages and barn is moved and connected to the triangular junction of newly constructed road.
The track on right side of the farm is now transformed into a road while on the right side of the road which was called sheep is having lots of structural changes like 2 parking areas are constructed at the end of road. Moreover a camping field and solar panels are installed adjecent to each other.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the two time periods and report several important changes, including the farm shop, the road, parking, camping and solar panels. However, the account is only partly accurate and the overall picture is not clearly summarised. For example, the barn was not replaced by holiday cottages: the cottages are south of the eastbound road, while the barn remains and is relocated to the south-west near the road junction. The fruit trees, soft-fruit and vegetable areas are largely retained, but their positions and relationship to the river are not explained clearly. The opening also lacks a concise overview of the main transformation. To strengthen the response, state the broad shift from a mainly agricultural site to one with visitor facilities, then describe the key changes and retained features accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable progression: it first describes the 1950 layout and then turns to changes today. Paragraphing supports this comparison, and phrases such as “First of all” and “Moreover” help signal additions. This gives the account a coherent overall arrangement. However, some links are mechanical or unclear, particularly “the fourth section have lots of changes” and “on the right side of the road which was called sheep,” where the reader must infer which locations are being compared. The long second paragraph also combines several separate changes without a clear order. For stronger progression, group information by area or by retained versus new features, and use precise references such as “the former sheep field” and “the eastern road branch.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant map vocabulary, including “river,” “track,” “farmhouse,” “parking areas,” “camping field” and “solar panels,” so the main subject is generally understandable. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “triangular junction” and “structural changes.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward: “streaming below the road,” “fruit section is upgraded,” and “barn is moved and connected” do not describe the map naturally. Spelling errors such as “secction,” “conjection,” and “adjecent” also reduce control. Build a more precise range for describing location and change, and check spelling and collocations; for example, say that a track “was converted into a road” and a barn “was relocated.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a comparison between the two maps and clauses introduced by “while” and “which.” However, errors are frequent, and some complex sentences are difficult to follow. Examples include “The diagrams below illustrates,” “In 1950 farm was consist of,” and “the fourth section have lots of changes,” which show problems with agreement, verb forms and articles. The sentence beginning “On the left side of it” also has unclear reference, while punctuation is inconsistent, especially around commas and full stops. Practise accurate past and present forms and build longer sentences from a clear main clause. For example: “In 1950, the farm consisted of agricultural plots, a sheep field and a small group of buildings.”
