Student answer (Band 6.0)

Given map illustrates the farm site called Beechwood farm with some alterations at present time and how the same site looked during the year 1950.

Overall, the layout of the site remained same across the time, adjacent to the river. However, the farm is now modified into a Getaway spot with of various utilities and replacing some of sites into service stations.

During 1950, the main site was connected by a track, dividing the farm based on various facilites. Initally only the bottom side of the farm was used efficiently, starting from left side was a farm land used for cultivating Fruit trees, other soft fruits and vegetables with its great connectivity to the river. On the left side was the barn, farmhouse and areadeidicated for keeping chickens. In contrast the entire top side of the track was dedicated space for sheeps.

Presently, the track has been replaced by a road, Fruit trees farm has a small shopping centre that sells all the farm products. On the either side of the road, in front of farm shop is a parking area. The area didicated for sheeps has been divided into two areas, a campaign site touching the top side of the road and installation of solar panels in a remote area, with another parking touching the top right side of the road. The barn is replaced by Holiday cottages. Whereas farmhouse and chickens stay in a same area as before. Barn has been shifted to a road joining the entire site.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the main transformation from a working farm to a site with visitor facilities, and you compare several important features, including the new road, camping area, solar panels, parking and holiday cottages. The overview that the site remains beside the river while its use changes is relevant. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: the farm shop is between the fruit trees and road, rather than replacing the fruit-tree farm, and the original barn is not replaced by the cottages; it remains, relocated to the southern road junction. The farmhouse and chicken enclosure also remain in roughly the same area. The account of the former layout is useful, but the changes to the fields and buildings need more precise explanation and fuller coverage to make the comparison consistently clear.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the earlier and present layouts. This makes the broad chronological comparison easy to follow, and transitions such as “During 1950” and “Presently” help signal the shift in time. The sequence within the 1950 description, moving from the fields to the buildings, is also generally logical. To strengthen progression further, organise the present-day details by location or by what changed, rather than moving between the shop, parking, northern area and buildings without consistently showing their relationships. Some links are unclear, particularly “On the either side of the road, in front of farm shop,” and “Whereas” begins a fragment rather than a complete contrast.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of topic vocabulary, including “cultivating,” “installation,” “connectivity,” and “dedicated,” and terms such as “farmhouse,” “solar panels” and “holiday cottages” suit the map. However, several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, which sometimes makes the description less precise: “Getaway spot,” “service stations,” “shopping centre,” and “campaign site” do not accurately describe the facilities shown. There are also spelling and word-form slips, including “facilites,” “Initally,” “sheeps,” and “didicated.” Aim for straightforward, exact map language—for example, “visitor destination,” “farm shop,” “camping field” and “areas”—and check spelling carefully. This would make your adequate range more reliable and natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the overview beginning “Overall” and the contrast introduced by “However.” The main meaning is usually recoverable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. For example, “the layout of the site remained same” needs an article, while “the farm is now modified” uses an awkward tense construction for a completed change. In “Whereas farmhouse and chickens stay in a same area,” articles and tense are problematic, and “Whereas” leaves the idea as a fragment. There are also agreement and sentence-boundary issues in “the barn, farmhouse and areadeidicated for keeping chickens.” Review articles, past-versus-present tense, and complete clause structure; these corrections would improve accuracy while preserving your attempts at varied sentences.
