Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the broad change from a working farm to a site with visitor facilities, noting the new cottages, camping field, solar panels and the removal of the sheep area. You also recognise that the fruit and vegetable plots remain. However, the overview is vague (“very developed”) and several important changes are unclear or inaccurate: the farmhouse remains in place, while the barn is relocated rather than simply changing in area; the farm shop and two parking areas are also not clearly reported. Some descriptions, such as the “three department” for produce, do not explain the plots’ positions. To strengthen the response, give a precise overview and compare the main features systematically, including what stayed, what was added, and what moved.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the earlier and present layouts. This gives the reader a basic chronological route through the maps. However, progression within the paragraphs is difficult to follow because many details are joined in long strings with commas and repeated “while” clauses. For example, the first detail paragraph moves from the highway to the river, plots, chickens, farmhouse, barn and sheep without clear grouping. The final paragraph similarly combines roads, crops, parking, cottages and new facilities. Use shorter sentences and organise details by area or by change type; use linking phrases such as “In the north-east” and “By contrast” to make relationships clearer.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt vocabulary relevant to describing change and location, including “replace,” “relocte,” “along side,” and “as replacement,” and you refer to several map features. However, the range is limited and many spelling and word-choice errors make some details hard to understand, such as “futurestick facilties,” “three department,” and “farm enternce road.” Some expressions are also imprecise: “very developed” does not specify the nature of the development, and “concret road” is not supported by the map, which labels it as a road. Aim for accurate map vocabulary and check spelling carefully. More precise terms such as “converted,” “retained,” “relocated,” and “visitor facilities” would help communicate the changes clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You try to combine ideas using subordinate clauses and contrast, for example in sentences beginning “while” and “as replacement,” but these longer structures are often faulty and difficult to follow. Verb forms and tense are frequently inaccurate, as in “the farm was change” and “facilities are develop,” and articles and prepositions are often missing or misplaced, as in “farm was located to near the highway.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also weak: several long sentences are joined mainly by commas, with spaces before punctuation. These errors sometimes obscure the relationships between features. Build accuracy first with clear past-versus-present sentences, then add one controlled comparison clause at a time.
