Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main change accurately: the farm has shifted from a mainly agricultural site towards tourism and renewable energy, while fruit, soft-fruit and vegetable production remains. The comparison between the sheep field and the present camping area, and the addition of solar panels, a shop and parking, is relevant and grounded in the plans. However, some details are imprecise: the 1950 plots were on the south-western side, not simply “along the western side,” and the present solar panels are in the north-east corner, while the nearby parking is a separate feature. The account also gives limited detail about the eastern development, especially the holiday cottages and the changed road layout. A fuller, more precise comparison would strengthen coverage.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction and overview are followed by descriptions of the earlier and present layouts. This gives the reader a broad chronological progression, and linking phrases such as “while” and “Furthermore” help connect changes. However, the final paragraph appears to stop mid-phrase at “a row of holiday cot…”, leaving the development incomplete and weakening the progression. Some transitions are also abrupt, and the long overview sentence combines several points without clear punctuation. Use complete paragraphs with a clear topic for each period, and connect related changes explicitly—for example, explain how the new roads serve the shop, parking and cottages. This would make the organisation more consistently easy to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a suitable range of task vocabulary, including “transformation,” “recreational and commercial facilities,” “solar panel installation,” and “chicken enclosure.” These choices communicate the broad changes and show some flexibility beyond basic map language. However, spelling and word-form slips reduce precision, including “loyout,” “fame,” “tress,” and “Fourthermore.” Some collocations are also awkward: “a large field sheep grazing” would be more natural as “a large field for sheep grazing,” and “mixed use site” needs clearer phrasing such as “a mixed-use site.” Check spelling carefully and choose precise terms for locations and land use. The vocabulary is adequate for the task, but more accurate collocation would make the description more fluent and exact.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex structures, including the overview’s contrast between retained agriculture and new facilities, and the sentence beginning “while the northeastern corner…” This shows some range, and the main meaning is generally recoverable. However, there are some errors in sentence construction, articles, and punctuation. For example, “a large field sheep grazing” lacks a grammatical link, while “a farmhouse, a barn a chicken enclosure” needs parallel punctuation and a conjunction. The overview also runs several clauses together, and sentence openings such as “Overall” and “In 1950” need consistent punctuation and capitalisation. Practise building complete, balanced sentences and proofreading articles, commas and conjunctions; this will improve accuracy while preserving your attempts at complex forms.
