Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the broad change from a farm in 1950 to a site with more visitor facilities today, and correctly note that fruit trees, soft fruits, vegetables, the farmhouse and chickens remain. You also mention the farm shop, camping field, solar panels and holiday cottages, which are important additions. However, the response only partially summarises the plans: there is no clear overview of the main transformation, and several locations are vague or inaccurate. For example, the sheep area is described as becoming “many things,” without explaining that it is now used for camping and solar panels, while the new parking areas are not clearly located. Develop the comparison by grouping retained farmland, new facilities and changes to the road layout, and describe their positions more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

The response contains relevant points and attempts to move from the 1950 layout to the present, using links such as “today,” “also” and “for example.” However, ideas are crowded into one paragraph and do not follow a clear route through the plans. The opening, “The behind show the changes,” does not establish a meaningful introduction, and the sequence jumps from crops to sheep, roads, chickens and solar panels. Some connections are difficult to follow, particularly “these facilities are still there only addition of holiday cottage.” Organise the report into a short introduction, an overview, and one or two paragraphs comparing the main areas. Use clear references such as “in the north-east” and “south of the farmhouse” to make relationships easier to track.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “fruit trees,” “soft fruits,” “vegetables,” “camping field” and “solar panels,” so the reader can recognise several features of the plans. However, the range is limited and some expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “separate corners of each thing,” “many things” and “facilities are still there.” Spelling and word-form errors, including “availible,” “utalise” and “establise,” also reduce accuracy. Choose specific map vocabulary rather than general phrases: for example, name the new land uses and describe where they are situated. Practising accurate spellings of common site features and using collocations such as “the area was converted into” would make the description clearer and more appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts to connect ideas in longer sentences, but sentence structures are often faulty and the range remains limited. Errors in tense, agreement, articles and sentence boundaries appear throughout. For example, “The behind show the changes between 1950 to today” has an unclear subject and incorrect verb form, while “There is also roads are present” combines incompatible structures. The phrase “1950is clear not other thing are present it” is difficult to interpret because several grammatical relationships are missing. Use straightforward, complete sentences first, with consistent past tense for 1950 and present tense for today. Check subject–verb agreement, articles and punctuation, then add controlled comparisons such as “Whereas the area was used for sheep in 1950, it now contains…”.
