Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the two time periods and give an overview of major changes, including the conversion of the sheep area and the development of roads and visitor facilities. Several comparisons are relevant: the new solar panels, camping field, parking and holiday cottages, alongside the farm shop. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear. The sheep area is not simply converted into three portions: it is replaced by several uses, while the original fruit-tree, soft-fruit and vegetable areas largely remain. The claim that the farmhouse and chicken area stayed in the same location is broadly accurate, but the barn’s relocation is difficult to understand. The response also falls six words short of the required minimum. Add a clearer overview and report the main changes more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic structure: an introduction, an overview and a paragraph describing individual changes. This gives the reader some sense of the comparison, and sequencing phrases such as “Overall,” “To commence with” and “Furthermore” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, progression is not consistently clear. The second paragraph moves abruptly from the northern area to roads, the barn, cottages and then unchanged features, while “secondly” does not clearly signal the relationship between points. Some references, such as “both,” “this” and “under the track side,” are hard to interpret. Group the information into clear comparisons—for example, land use and access in one paragraph, and buildings and new facilities in another—and use linking phrases only where they clarify the relationship.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “solar panels,” “camping field,” “holiday cottages” and “farm shop,” which helps identify the new features. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the description difficult to follow. “Biggest changing” and “track demonstrated into the numerous routes” do not express the intended changes naturally; “main change” and “the track was replaced by a network of roads” would be clearer. There are also spelling errors such as “roasd” and “Turing,” and “portion” is an imprecise choice for areas with different uses. Aim for accurate map vocabulary such as “converted,” “retained,” “relocated” and “expanded,” and check spelling before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the overall meaning can often be inferred. However, grammatical errors are frequent, and attempts to combine several ideas often produce unclear structures. For example, “Overall, the biggest changing is sheep area converted into the three different portion” lacks accurate verb forms, articles and plural agreement. “Farmhouse and chicken area had a same location at till” also has problems with tense, article use and sentence construction. The final sentence joins several comparisons without clear grammatical links. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use past and present forms consistently when comparing the two plans. Shorter, accurately punctuated sentences would make the information easier to understand.
