Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify several relevant features, including the sheep area, the three crop plots, the farmhouse and chickens, and changes such as the camping field, solar panels and holiday cottages. However, the comparison is only minimally developed: there is no clear overview of the farm’s main transformation, and many locations are described vaguely as being on the “other side.” Some details are inaccurate or confusing: the 1950 plan shows a barn and farmhouse, not “shops,” and the track becomes an internal road rather than a railway track. The response also does not clearly explain that the fruit-growing and vegetable areas remain, while new visitor facilities are added. Select the most important changes and describe them accurately to make the summary more complete and relevant.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is a basic attempt to move from the 1950 plan to the present, and phrases such as “First of all” and “and now today” signal that comparison. However, the response is essentially one long, loosely connected paragraph, so the reader has difficulty following the information. The repeated listing pattern (“First shop… Second shop… Third shop”) does not establish clear groups or a logical route around the maps, and “other side” has no precise reference. Some linking words are also used awkwardly, such as “and must difference.” Organise the response into an introduction, a brief overview, and separate paragraphs for the earlier and current layouts; use clear location references and comparison links.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses a small set of relevant map terms, including “main road,” “sheep,” “Fruit trees,” “Soft fruits,” “Vegetables,” “Farmhouse” and “Holiday cottages.” This shows some awareness of the topic, but vocabulary is basic and repetitive, and several inaccurate choices make the description difficult to interpret. For example, “shops” is used for the farm’s plots and buildings, while “railway track” misidentifies the track. There are also spelling and word-form problems such as “comparision,” “feild” and “praking.” Build a more precise range of terms for maps, including “field,” “plot,” “building,” “junction,” “located” and “converted,” and check spelling before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences, but sentence structures are very limited and frequently inaccurate, which sometimes obscures the intended meaning. For example, “The beachwood farm in 1950 show below the comparision” has problems with sentence formation and subject–verb agreement, while “sheep farm can changed into camping feild” does not form a correct passive construction. Articles, plurals and punctuation are also inconsistently controlled, as in “First shop” and the run-together “Chickensand.” Most information is presented as fragments or joined by repeated “and,” rather than in clear, complete sentences. Practise simple past and present forms, and use accurate patterns such as “The sheep field was replaced by a camping field” and “The track has been converted into a road.”
