Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response gives a clear overview of the main changes, identifying the new roads, visitor facilities, parking, camping field and solar panels. It also compares the site in 1950 with its present-day use and includes relevant original features such as the river-side crops, farmhouse and chickens. This covers the task well, although some details are over-generalised or imprecise: the sheep area is described as being replaced by both camping and solar panels, whereas the camping field is in the north-east and the solar panels occupy the far north-east; the former sheep area is not simply one replacement zone. The account also says the barn was relocated near the chicken area, but does not clearly explain its position relative to the farmhouse or the new cottages. More precise spatial comparisons would strengthen the report.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response is organised in a clear sequence: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on 1950 and a paragraph on the present layout. This gives the reader a logical progression through the comparison, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “In addition,” and “Moreover” help signal relationships between points. The main limitation is that the descriptions within each period are sometimes presented as a list rather than grouped by location or function. For example, the present-day paragraph moves from cottages and the shop to the barn, parking, camping and solar panels without a consistent spatial route. Some references, such as “one side of the track” and “the facility,” are also broad. Grouping features by area and using clearer location references would make the progression more cohesive.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The response uses an adequate range of vocabulary for describing change and location, including “redevelopment,” “considerable transformation,” “introduced,” “installed,” and “along the river bank.” These choices communicate the main developments, and the writer attempts some less common terms. However, several word choices and collocations are imprecise or repetitive: “constructions of roads” is less natural than “construction of roads,” while “a holiday cottage and farm shop are built” does not accurately convey the four cottages and the shop. There are also spelling errors in “locted,” “fileds,” and “fram,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for precise map vocabulary such as “converted,” “added,” “situated,” and “four holiday cottages,” and check spelling and plural forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

There is a mix of simple sentences and more complex forms, including the overview sentence beginning “Overall” and the clause “with the redevelopment of tracks into roads.” Most meanings remain clear, but some grammatical errors occur. The opening has subject–verb disagreement: “The diagrams given illustrates” should be “The diagrams illustrate.” Other examples include “There were barn and a fram house,” which needs articles and plural agreement, and “sheep are on the other side,” where the past-time description requires “sheep were.” The sentence “A holiday cottage and farm shop are built” also needs clearer article and number choices. To improve, check agreement, articles, and consistent past and present tenses, while retaining the range of sentence structures already attempted.
