Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the two time periods and give a basic overall comparison, noting that more facilities exist today and that the river remains. You also mention several relevant features, including sheep, the crops, parking and solar panels. However, the account is only partial and some key changes are unclear or inaccurate: the barn did not become holiday cottages; the cottages are a new feature, while the barn remains in a different position. The description of the site’s layout is also difficult to follow, and the main changes to the former track and farm areas are not clearly summarised. To strengthen the response, select the most important additions and retained features, then compare their locations accurately and give a clearer overview of how the farm has changed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic sequence, moving from an overview to details about 1950 and then to the present, so the reader can recognise an attempt to organise the comparison. However, progression is not consistently clear: phrases such as “In centre in past” and “And many facilities are save in past and present” do not show how the ideas relate. The paragraphing is limited, and repeated use of “there” and “and” makes the account feel list-like. Some references, such as “they” and “the upward area,” are unclear. Organise the response into a concise overview followed by one paragraph on the earlier plan and one comparing the main present-day changes, using clear location references and linking words.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “sheep,” “fruit trees,” “soft fruits,” “vegetables,” “solar panels” and “parking,” which helps identify features on the plans. However, the range is limited and several word choices or combinations make the meaning difficult to understand, such as “pitch road,” “triangular side of track” and “facilities are save.” There are also spelling errors, including “comapare” and “farm house.” Aim for precise map vocabulary and natural collocations: for example, describe a track as “converted into a road,” and use “facilities” only for amenities rather than fields or buildings. Check spelling and choose terms that accurately distinguish retained features from new ones.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the time contrast between 1950 and the present is relevant. However, sentence structures are often faulty, and errors frequently make relationships between features hard to follow. Examples include “there had a less facilities,” “There is many facilities are added,” and “The river is stayed the past and present.” These show problems with verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction. Punctuation and capitalisation are also inconsistent, as in “Overall ,” and “IN 1950 ,”. Build accurate short sentences first—for example, “There were fewer facilities in 1950”—then combine ideas with a controlled clause such as “Although the river remains, the track has been converted into a road.”
