Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the broad change from a farm to a more developed site and mention several relevant features, including the road, farm shop, camping field, solar panels and parking. However, the overview is unclear, and some details are inaccurate: the sheep area is not described as being divided into separate parts, and the new barn is not an addition in the south; the original barn remains, while the present barn is repositioned. The response also omits important changes such as holiday cottages and the farmhouse’s relationship to them. At 149 words, it is one word below the 150-word minimum. To improve, give a clear overview and compare the main land-use changes accurately, rather than listing features without explaining what changed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response, moving from an overview to descriptions of the north-west, west and south. This gives the reader some sense of location, and phrases such as “In the south west part” help signal a shift. However, the progression is not consistently clear: the second paragraph combines the road’s route with several destinations, then repeats the farm shop and fields in the next sentence. The overview sentence is difficult to follow, and punctuation is missing between “holiday cottage” and the following sentence. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and key comparisons, and group features by area or by type of change. Clearer linking and reference would make the description easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “road,” “parking,” “camping field,” “solar panels” and “constructed,” so the reader can recognise several features. However, the range is limited and some choices are inaccurate or awkward, such as “path” for the original track, “farmshop,” and “the sheep divided into different parts.” Repetition of “map,” “side” and “there is” also makes the description less precise. Spelling errors such as “thge” and the broken phrase “an d build” further reduce clarity. Aim to use accurate labels from the plans and a wider set of change verbs, for example “was converted into,” “was added” and “remained unchanged.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts a few longer sentences, but control is weak and errors frequently make relationships between features unclear. For example, “The map plans below illustrates” has subject–verb disagreement, while “what changes will happen” uses an inappropriate question-like structure and tense. The overview, “the area become more developed,” also has an incorrect verb form. Other problems include missing articles and prepositions, as in “In the south side of map,” and the faulty construction “there is soft fruits and vegetables be left untouched.” Sentence boundaries are also unclear in places. Practise accurate simple past and present forms for comparing the two plans, then build longer sentences using controlled clauses such as “The track was upgraded to a road, which now connects…”.
