Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the broad change from a farm to a more developed site and mention several relevant features, including the new road, farm shop, camping field, solar panels and holiday cottages. However, the overview is unclear, and some details are inaccurate or confusing: the sheep area is not described as being divided, and the barn was not simply added in the south; the original barn was relocated, while the farmhouse and chicken enclosure remain. The statement that the south-west fields were “left untouched” also overlooks that the road layout and nearby facilities changed. To strengthen the response, give a clear overview of the main transformations, then compare the locations and functions of the key features accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to descriptions of different areas. This gives the reader some sense of how the site is being described. However, progression is difficult to follow because locations and changes are sometimes combined in long, unclear sentences, such as the overview’s description of the sheep area, parking and camping. Repeated openings such as “In the … side of the map” also make the organisation mechanical, while references such as “that barn” are not always clear. Organise the report around the main changes—for example, access and land use, then buildings—and use clearer linking and referencing between comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “road,” “parking,” “camping field,” “solar panels” and “holiday cottages,” and you attempt to describe change with words such as “upgraded,” “constructed” and “replaced.” However, the range is limited and several choices or combinations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning hard to interpret. For example, “the sheep divided into different parts” does not clearly describe the map, and “a addition of barn” is not a natural way to report the change. There are also spelling errors, including “hoilday.” Aim for precise verbs and collocations for map changes, such as “was converted into,” “was relocated” and “was added,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, but control is inconsistent, and errors often make relationships between features difficult to understand. For example, “The map plans below illustrates” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “the area become more developed” uses an incorrect verb form. The sentence beginning “In the south side” contains several clauses without clear grammatical links, and “there is a addition of barn that connected” has problems with articles, tense and clause structure. Use shorter, complete sentences to report each change, and check agreement, articles and past-versus-present forms. More accurate sentence patterns would make your comparisons much easier to follow.
