Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the broad change from a farm in 1950 to a more developed site today, and mention several relevant features, including sheep, camping, holiday cottages, the farm shop and solar panels. However, the comparison is only partial and the main changes are not clearly summarised. For example, the response does not explain that the original track network has become roads, or that the barn, farmhouse and chicken enclosure remain. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: “a lot of barn” does not match the plan, which shows one barn, and the parking and solar-panel locations are not described clearly. A more focused overview followed by accurate comparisons of the land use and buildings would make the report more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is an attempt to compare the two periods, using phrases such as “in 1950” and “in recent era,” and the response includes an overall statement about change. However, the information is not arranged into clear stages or groups, so the reader has to work to follow the comparisons. Several ideas run together in long sentences, while the final phrase “alongside the road” is repeated without adding information. The overview also appears after a series of details rather than clearly guiding the report. Organise the response into an introduction, a concise overview, and paragraphs comparing the western fields and eastern buildings or facilities. Use linking words only where they clarify the relationship between features.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant vocabulary for describing a site, including “holiday cottages,” “camping fields,” “solar panels” and “fruit trees.” However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or awkward, which sometimes makes the intended meaning difficult to follow. For instance, “a lot of barn” is not an appropriate description of the map, and “modifications are predicted” does not express that changes have taken place. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “alot,” “rennovation” and “bran.” Aim for precise map vocabulary and accurate collocations, such as describing facilities as being “located” or “replaced,” rather than relying repeatedly on “alongside” and “a lot.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences, but control of sentence structure and basic grammar is inconsistent. For example, “The picture depicts that the farm site of 1950 and todays era” is incomplete, while “in 1950 there is fruit trees” has a tense and agreement problem. The report shifts between past and present forms without a consistent pattern, as in “has” for the 1950 site and “there is” for current features. Missing or misplaced punctuation also makes some sentences difficult to read, particularly the opening comparison. Use the past tense for 1950 and the present tense for today, and practise complete comparative sentences such as “In 1950, the site contained…, whereas today…”.
