Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The two pics illustrated a farm mentioning the state of beechwood farm in 1950 and today.
There has been a lot of development today compared to the 1950. The river is same but the Track has been converted to a proper road today. The track and now raod makes a triangular space on the cuve. The sheep place was a huge ground that was empty earlier but now the land distributed in two parts: camping field and Solar panel plant. A small parking place dedicated to both.
On the other side of the road, on the river bank the land was distributed in many simple parts. In the far right near main road stated fruit trees, going towards left could found soft fruits farm, then vegetables and on the far left there is a farmhouse Barn and a chickens fence. Today there are some changes here and there. A new farm shop has been opened near the raod on fruit trees land. Others are same but the major change happned on the barn location that has changed and now it is on the triangular road that extended on the down side and at the end of the road near river curve new barn is located. The old barn house loaction got replaced with Holiay cottages.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main overall change: the farm has become more developed, with the track replaced by a road and new visitor-related facilities added. You also compare the former sheep area with the camping field and solar panels, and note the farm shop, cottages and relocated barn. These are relevant, mostly accurate features, supporting a clear summary. However, some details are unclear or inaccurate: the parking is not described as serving both new uses, and the original farmhouse remains in place rather than being part of the barn’s relocation. The description of the plots is also confusing: the fruit trees, soft fruits and vegetables remain, while the shop is added beside the fruit trees. More precise comparisons and a clearer account of what stayed unchanged would complete the overview more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable progression from general changes to the northern area and then the plots and buildings, with paragraph breaks helping to separate these points. Linking expressions such as “compared to,” “On the other side,” and “Today” show an effort to guide the reader through the comparison. However, the organisation is not always easy to follow because locations and directions are sometimes presented unclearly. For example, “In the far right near main road stated fruit trees” makes the plot sequence difficult to visualise, and “Others are same” does not specify which features remain unchanged. Use a consistent route around the map and clearer references, such as “the eastern area” or “the former barn site,” to make the progression smoother and cohesion less mechanical.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant map vocabulary, including “river bank,” “camping field,” “farm shop,” “triangular,” and “located,” which allows you to report several changes. There is also some attempt to vary wording, for example “converted” and “replaced.” However, word choice and collocation are often imprecise: “the land distributed in two parts” and “a small parking place dedicated to both” do not express the intended relationships naturally. Several spelling errors, including “raod,” “happned,” and “loaction,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for standard map-description phrases such as “was divided into,” “was replaced by,” and “is situated beside,” and check spelling carefully. More precise directional vocabulary would also help distinguish the different roads and areas.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including the contrast in “The river is same but the Track has been converted” and the clause beginning “that has changed.” However, grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make relationships difficult to understand. Examples include “The two pics illustrated a farm mentioning the state,” “The sheep place was a huge ground that was empty earlier,” and “going towards left could found soft fruits farm.” Articles and verb forms are also problematic in phrases such as “the river is same” and “the land distributed.” Practise forming clear past-versus-present comparisons, for example, “The river has remained unchanged, while the track has been replaced by a road.” Check sentence boundaries and use complete clauses when describing locations.
