Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the broad change from a farm in 1950 to a more developed site today, and you mention several relevant features, including the road, parking, solar panels, holiday cottages and farm shop. However, the response only partially reports the plans: it does not clearly describe where these features are located or distinguish what stayed the same from what changed. The claim that the farm became “larger” and “more beautiful” is not established by the maps, and the explanation about population growth and government development is speculative. A clearer overview should state that the site has been adapted for visitors while retaining agricultural areas and some original buildings. Then compare key locations and changes accurately, such as the camping field and solar panels in the north-east and cottages near the farmhouse.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is an attempt to begin with an introduction and an overall statement, followed by details about the two periods. However, the ideas are not arranged in a clear progression: the long final paragraph moves between 1950 features, present-day changes, and unsupported explanations without grouping related information. Connectors such as “Moreover,” “Therefore,” and “However” are used, but they do not consistently show the relationship between the ideas; “However” introduces no clear contrast. The repeated references to “peoples” and “land area” also make the development repetitive. Organise the response into a concise overview and separate paragraphs for retained features and new developments, using location-based links such as “in the north-east” and “south of the farmhouse.”
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response includes some task-relevant vocabulary, such as “track,” “sheep,” “fruit trees,” “solar panels,” and “holiday cottages,” so the reader can recognise several map features. However, the range is limited and many expressions are inaccurate or repetitive, which sometimes makes the intended meaning difficult to follow. Phrases such as “its look likes,” “adding many things,” and “cover the land area for the peoples” are not natural ways to describe changes on a plan. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “bueatiful,” “chnaged,” and “inculiding.” Use precise map language and avoid subjective or vague descriptions. For example, describe a feature as “added” or “converted,” and state its position rather than calling it a “good development.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt to combine ideas using longer sentences and linking words, but the response relies heavily on faulty sentence structures, and errors often make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “The plans below illustrate the site of a farm that compares past 76 years ago from now today its look likes…” has an unclear subject and incorrect tense construction. In “the beechwood farm which was looking in 1950 now today its becomes,” the relative clause and verb forms are not controlled. Articles, agreement and punctuation also need attention, as in “Overall, the” and “farm having track.” Practise writing short, complete comparison sentences first, then add subordinate clauses accurately: “In 1950, the site had a track; today, this has been replaced by roads.”
