Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the maps as a comparison of Beechwood Farm in 1950 and today, and you mention several important additions, including parking, a farm shop, holiday cottages, a camping field and solar panels. However, the overview is unclear and contradictory: you first describe “alot of changings” but conclude there is “not too much difference” and “only few things.” Some details are also inaccurate or imprecise. The barn was not replaced by the cottages; it remains on the site, while the cottages are south of the eastern road. The track has become a road, but the original farm features, including the farmhouse, chickens and crop areas, also remain. A clearer overview and more accurate comparisons would strengthen the report.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic sequence: it introduces the maps, describes some changes and ends with a conclusion. However, most information is placed in one long paragraph, so the reader has little help distinguishing the overview from specific details. Linking phrases such as “In 1950,” “In today’s date,” and “Back in 1950” are repetitive, and the repeated contrast between past and present does not create a clear progression through the site. The conclusion also conflicts with the earlier description. Organise the response into an introduction, a concise overview and one or two detail paragraphs, grouping related changes by location or feature. Use references such as “in the north-east” to make relationships clearer.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “parking,” “holiday cottages,” “camping field,” “solar panels” and “main road,” so the reader can identify several features. However, the range is limited and some expressions are informal, repetitive or inaccurately collocated: “all these stuffs,” “alot of changings,” “upgraded with road” and “standing with farm road” do not describe the changes precisely. There are also spelling errors, including “conlusion” and “parkling.” Aim for concise, conventional language for describing plans, and choose verbs that express the map changes accurately. For example, say that a track was converted into a road, rather than that it was “upgraded with road.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response relies mainly on simple statements and shows limited control when attempting longer sentences. Errors occur frequently in articles, agreement, verb forms and sentence boundaries. For example, “there are addition of things” needs a plural subject and a suitable verb, while “there was only a track” is followed by the awkward construction “the track is upgraded with road.” The opening also runs directly into “Overall” without a space or clear punctuation, and “chickens's site” has an incorrect possessive form. These errors sometimes make relationships between features difficult to follow. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with controlled clauses using “while” or “whereas.”
