Student answer (Band 5.5)

The plans below show the site of a farm in 1950 and the same site today.

Overall, the main difference in farm is that now solar panels are added in farm. The sheep area now convers into camping fields, parking and solar panels. The fruit trees, vegetables and soft fruits areas are still same.

Firstally, track now converts into road and also road is connected with barn. Now solar panels, two pakings and camping field are make at sheep area, so the sheep area is completely removed from the farm. The farmhouse and the chicken area have remained unchanged.

Secondally, Fruit trees, soft fruits and vegetables areas are also same but, small farm shop is now make on the corner of fruit trees area. Furthermore, barn converts into holiday cottages. Now farm totally converts in to modren farm like many new technologies are now add in farm.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main change from sheep grazing to newer uses, and note that the fruit and vegetable plots remain, which gives the reader a relevant overview. You also mention the new shop, parking, camping field and solar panels. However, some details are inaccurate: the barn remains on the site rather than becoming holiday cottages; the cottages are newly built south of the eastern road, while the farmhouse and chicken enclosure remain. The claim that the sheep area is completely removed is broadly understandable, but the new uses are not all located precisely. The response is 131 words, below the 150-word minimum, and this limits the detail and comparisons you can provide. Include the barn’s continued presence and describe the road and building changes more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic, useful structure: an overview followed by two paragraphs describing changes, and the reader can generally follow the comparison. However, progression is weakened by the repeated sequencing words “Firstally” and “Secondally,” and several ideas are crowded into long sentences, such as the sentence listing solar panels, parking and the camping field. The final sentence repeats the general idea of modernisation without adding a clear comparison. Some links are also unclear: “Furthermore, barn converts into holiday cottages” connects two features but gives the wrong relationship between them. Group changes by location or by features that remain versus those that are new, and use clearer sentence boundaries and references to improve the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant map vocabulary, including “solar panels,” “camping field,” “farm shop,” and “remained unchanged,” so the topic is usually clear. However, the range is limited and several word choices, collocations and spellings are inaccurate or repetitive: “convers into,” “make at sheep area,” “pakings,” and “modren farm.” “The sheep area” and “farm” are also repeated frequently, while “new technologies” is vague for describing the specific additions shown. Use precise verbs for map changes, such as “was replaced by,” “was converted into,” or “was added,” and check spelling. More varied, accurate language would make the description clearer and more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and linked sentences, and the basic meaning is often recoverable. However, errors occur frequently in verb forms, articles, agreement and sentence construction, sometimes making relationships difficult to understand. For example, “the sheep area now convers into camping fields” needs a correctly formed passive, while “solar panels, two pakings and camping field are make” has an incorrect verb form and missing article. “The fruit trees, vegetables and soft fruits areas are still same” also has problems with agreement and article use. Most sentences follow a similar simple pattern, and attempts to link clauses are not consistently controlled. Practise accurate past-to-present comparisons and passive forms, then proofread each sentence for a complete verb phrase and necessary articles.
