The provided plans illustrate the site of a farm between 1950 and present day.
Overall, the farm has become more modern. Some buildings remain unchanged. Some area has become more developed.
In 1950, the west side of land is divided into three main areas for fruit trees, soft fruits, vegetables. The east side of land used for sheep. A farmhouse and barn were situated in eastern part of farm with a separate area for chickens nearby. A river ran along the western and southern boundaries. The site was accessed by tracks, which connected the different parts of farm.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main change from a working farm to a more developed site, and you compare the 1950 layout with today’s use of the land. The river, original farm buildings, and the replacement of the sheep area with camping and solar panels are relevant features. However, the overview is quite general, and several important present-day changes are omitted, especially the farm shop, holiday cottages, and the altered road layout. The claim that the fruit, soft-fruit, and vegetable areas “remain unchanged” is also too broad: their general uses remain, but the plan shows changes to access and surrounding facilities. Develop the comparison by describing these additions and clarifying which features stayed in place versus which were modified.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall sequence: an introduction and overview are followed by a description of 1950 and then the present day. This makes the comparison easy to follow, and phrases such as “In 1950” and “Today” help signal the time shift. Some connections between details are less clear, however. For example, “Some area fruit trees, soft fruits, and vegetables remain unchanged but track is replaced by road” compresses several ideas and leaves the relationship between them unclear. The final paragraph also ends after listing parking, without a concluding comparison. Use clearer sentence boundaries and link each present-day change to its earlier counterpart to make progression more complete.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a suitable range of map vocabulary, including “boundaries,” “accessed,” “connected,” and “developed considerably,” and the reader can generally understand the changes you describe. Some wording is imprecise or repetitive, such as “Some area” and repeated uses of “farm” and “area.” “The east side of land used for sheep” is also an awkward way to describe land use, while “solar panel” does not accurately reflect the plural feature shown. Aim for more precise location and change vocabulary, such as “occupied by,” “converted into,” and “in the north-east corner.” More accurate collocations and varied terms for the site’s features would make the description clearer and more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple statements and some longer structures, including “Some buildings remain unchanged” and the sentence beginning “There are two parking areas,” so there is some variety. Meaning is usually clear, but several grammatical errors remain. For example, “The east side of land used for sheep” needs a subject and a suitable verb, and “Some area has become more developed” has an awkward singular construction. In “track is replaced by road,” the articles are missing, and “Today ,” has incorrect spacing before the comma. Check articles, sentence completeness, and tense consistency when describing the two plans; these corrections would improve accuracy while preserving your clear basic structure.
