Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

The plan compares the Beechwood farm site in 1950 with present developments.

Overall, while the area of the farm remained same, some modern features has been installed after developments.

The biggest change can be seen in the sheep area where the solar pannels are installed on the top-right conner of the site and below that parking area are connected with the body edges of the road. The track is replaced with the road and the barn is relocated to the intersection of the road. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the two dates and give an overview that the site has changed, then mention several relevant features, including solar panels, parking, the relocated barn, cottages and the farm shop. However, the response only partially summarises the plans: it omits major changes such as the camping field and the road layout, and the claim that the farmhouse and chickens “remained unchanged” overlooks the new holiday cottages nearby. Some details are inaccurate or unclear, including saying the farm’s area “remained same” and describing the soft-fruit and vegetable areas as untouched. The final sentence is incomplete, and the response is 20 words below the required minimum. To improve, provide a complete overview and compare the main land-use changes accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs describing changes in different parts of the site. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is grouped. However, progression is difficult to follow because several details are crowded into long sentences, and links between locations are not always clear. For example, “below that parking area are connected with the body edges of the road” is hard to interpret, while “To the le” leaves the final paragraph unfinished. The repeated use of “and” also makes the description feel list-like. Organise the report by area or by unchanged and changed features, and use clear location references and complete sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing a site plan, including “relocated,” “intersection,” “constructed,” and “sections,” which helps convey changes and locations. There is also an attempt to use more specific terms such as “solar panels” and “holiday cottages.” However, several word choices or combinations are inaccurate and make details difficult to understand: “body edges of the road,” “carpet road,” and “soft fruit beverages” do not describe the map clearly. Spelling errors such as “pannels” and “conner,” along with the incorrect form “Farm shops,” reduce precision. Aim for standard map-description collocations and check spelling and singular/plural forms before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple statements and longer sentences, and the opening comparison is understandable. However, grammatical errors occur often enough to make some relationships unclear. Examples include “the area of the farm remained same,” which needs an article, and “some modern features has been installed,” where the subject and verb do not agree and the passive form is faulty. “The chickens and farmhouse remained unchanged but on top of that holidays cottages are constructed” also has problems with articles, number and tense consistency. The final fragment, “To the le,” is incomplete. Practise accurate past-versus-present forms and agreement, and keep sentences shorter when describing several map features.
