Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the two time periods and mention several relevant features, including the river, farm buildings, crops, camping and solar panels. However, the account is only a partial and sometimes inaccurate summary of the plans. For example, the fruit trees were not newly added; they were already present in 1950, and the solar panels are in the north-east, not the north-west. The sheep area is described as becoming a camping field, but the current plan also shows a farm shop, holiday cottages and two parking areas, which are important changes you omit. Some 1950 locations are also misreported: the fruit trees are south-west of the track, not north-east. A clearer overview of the main changes and more accurate comparisons are needed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic chronological structure, with one paragraph for 1950 and another for today, so the reader can recognise the intended comparison. However, ideas within each paragraph are often presented as a list, with limited logical grouping or progression. The repeated use of “was located” and the abrupt shift to “on the other hand” do not clearly show how the features relate. The final paragraph also ends without a concluding overview, and several changes are mentioned without connecting them to the earlier layout. Grouping the information by areas of the site or by what stayed the same and what changed, and using clearer linking phrases, would make the description easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, such as “triangular shape,” “solar panels,” “camping field” and “river,” and you attempt descriptive language. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning unclear. For instance, “a huge dramatical change” is not a natural way to describe the redevelopment, while “fruit trees area added additional facility” does not clearly express the change. There are also frequent spelling errors, including “friuts,” “repalced” and “availabel.” Aim for precise map vocabulary and check spelling; straightforward terms such as “converted,” “remained” and “located” are more effective than inaccurate embellishments.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
Most sentences rely on simple structures, and frequent errors in sentence formation and basic grammar sometimes make the description difficult to understand. For example, “The given maps illustrates” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “sheep was live” and “solar panels has locate” use incorrect verb forms. Articles and sentence boundaries are also problematic, as in “In today, a huge dramatical change in the same beechwood farm,” which is not a complete sentence. Capitalisation after full stops is inconsistent, and several clauses are joined or punctuated unclearly. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add controlled comparisons using forms such as “was replaced by” and “remained in the same location.”
