Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response identifies the two time periods and mentions several relevant features, including sheep, the track, fields, buildings, the river and some present-day changes. However, the comparison is incomplete and several locations are misreported: in 1950 the fruit trees and soft fruits were southwest of the track, not northeast, while the barn, farmhouse and chicken enclosure were in the eastern part of the site, not the southwest. The present-day account stops mid-sentence and does not describe key changes such as the farm shop, parking, holiday cottages or the relocated barn. There is no clear overview of the site’s main transformation. The response is also 142 words, below the required 150; 10 words copied from the prompt were excluded from the count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response by time: one paragraph describes 1950 and the next begins with “In today,” which gives the reader a simple chronological framework. Linking expressions such as “However” and “On the other hand” are also attempted. However, progression within the paragraphs is difficult to follow, and some links do not express a clear contrast or relationship. The second paragraph ends abruptly with “but Infruit tress area,” leaving the present-day description unfinished. Several ideas are crowded into long sentences, while punctuation and spacing make boundaries unclear. To improve, use a clear introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the two plans, grouping features by location and using connectors only where their meaning is precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some task-related vocabulary, including “fruit trees,” “soft fruits,” “vegetables,” “Farmhouse” and “river,” so the reader can recognise the general subject. It also attempts descriptive language such as “converted” and “located.” However, vocabulary is often inaccurate or unnatural: “aweosome traingle track” is unclear, “sheeps” is not the correct plural, and “solarplants area” does not accurately name the solar panels shown. “A wonderful river” is an inappropriate subjective description for an objective map report. Spelling errors such as “beehwood,” “bechwood” and “outsiide,” together with repeated use of “area” and “located,” limit precision. Choose standard map vocabulary and check spelling and collocations before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both simple statements and longer sentences, for example, “A large number of area was available…” and “However, vegetables area was situated…”. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors often make relationships between features difficult to understand. The opening should be “The diagrams illustrate…” rather than “The given diagrams illustrates,” and “In today” is not a correct time expression; use “Today” or “At present.” There are also problems with articles, number agreement and sentence boundaries, as in “Large number of area” and the run-on sequence beginning “In today, beechwood farm has…”. The final sentence is incomplete. Practise accurate past and present descriptions, subject–verb agreement, articles and complete sentence construction, then proofread punctuation.
