Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the two time periods and report several relevant changes, including the addition of a farm shop, camping field, solar panels and holiday cottages. However, the account is only partly accurate and the main changes are not clearly summarised. For example, the fruit trees were not northeast of the farm in 1950, and the solar panels are in the northeast, not the northwest. The sheep area becomes a camping field, but the response also incorrectly suggests parking is alongside it; parking is shown in two separate locations. The claim that the farmhouse, chickens and river remain in the same positions is broadly supported, while the barn’s relocation is noted but not explained clearly. A concise overview of the site’s shift towards tourism and new facilities would make the key features clearer.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response is arranged in two time-based paragraphs, which gives the reader a basic structure, and you use some linking expressions such as “on the other hand” and “however.” However, the description does not progress consistently from one area of the map to another, so locations can be difficult to follow. The first paragraph moves between the track, fields, buildings and river without a clear spatial order; the second similarly jumps from solar panels to sheep, fields and cottages. Some connectors are also used where no contrast is needed, and “However” does not introduce a clear opposing point. Grouping changes by location or by land use, and using clearer references such as “in the north-east” and “further south,” would improve the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “located,” “area,” “replaced,” and “facility,” and you attempt descriptive language such as “triangular shape” and “diamond shape.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the description unclear. For instance, “a huge dramatical change” is not a natural way to describe the overall development, and “large number of ares” does not clearly identify the sheep field. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “friuts,” “repalced,” “availabel,” and “seplendid.” Prefer precise, neutral terms for map changes and check spelling carefully; this will make the information easier to understand.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the reader can generally recognise the intended comparison between 1950 and today. However, grammatical errors are frequent, and several sentence patterns are incomplete or difficult to interpret. Examples include “The given maps illustrates” and “solar panels has locate,” where subject–verb agreement and verb forms are incorrect. Articles and sentence construction are also problematic in phrases such as “there was lot of facilities available” and “fruit trees area added additional facility.” Tense use shifts inconsistently between the two periods, and capitalisation after full stops is unreliable. Practise accurate past-tense descriptions for 1950 and present-tense descriptions for today, while building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb.
