Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the two time periods and mention several relevant features, including the sheep area, crops, buildings, river, parking and new facilities. However, the account only partially reports the main changes, and some locations or transformations are inaccurate. For example, the fruit trees and soft fruits were not on the northeast side in 1950; they were southwest of the track, between it and the river. The farmhouse, barn and chicken enclosure were in the eastern part of the site, not the southwest. Today, the farmhouse and chickens remain in roughly the same area, while the holiday cottages are a new addition nearby. Include a clear overview of the major changes and describe the map positions more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has separate paragraphs for 1950 and today, and phrases such as “On the other hand” and “In today” show an attempt to organise the comparison. However, the sequence within each paragraph is difficult to follow: features are introduced without a consistent route around the site, and several sentences combine unrelated details. The repeated “or” in phrases such as “fruit trees or soft fruits” also makes it unclear whether you are comparing alternatives or listing features. Use a clear overview first, then describe the western and eastern parts of the site in a consistent order. Choose linking expressions that show the actual relationship between features, rather than adding them mechanically.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “river,” “parking,” “farmhouse,” “triangle” and “diamond shape,” so the reader can recognise several map features. However, the range is basic and repetitive, and inaccurate word choice or spelling often strains understanding. Examples include “sheeps” for “sheep,” “solarplants” for “solar panels,” “burn” for “barn,” and “aweosome” for “awesome”; “awesome” and “wonderful” are also inappropriate subjective descriptions in a factual map report. Phrases such as “has available” and “a lot of developments” are not natural collocations. Learn precise map vocabulary and use neutral verbs such as “remained,” “was replaced by” and “was added.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt longer sentences and use past and present time references, but grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships between features difficult to understand. For example, “The given diagrams illustrates” has subject–verb disagreement, while “fruit trees or soft fruits has situated” has an incorrect verb form and agreement. The sentence beginning “In today” also shifts awkwardly between present and past forms, and several clauses lack clear grammatical connections. Articles, plurals and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “a solarplants area” and the spacing around full stops. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with controlled clauses using “while,” “whereas” and “which.”
