Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the two time periods and mention several genuine changes, including the removal of the sheep area and the addition of parking, a camping field, solar panels and holiday cottages. However, the account only minimally summarises the plans: the overview is unclear, and several details are inaccurate or difficult to interpret. For example, the 1950 plan shows a river, not a bridge, and the barn remains on the site today rather than being replaced; it is the farmhouse area that is joined by holiday cottages nearby. The statement that trees were added is also misleading, as fruit trees appear in both plans. To improve, give a clear overview of the main changes, then accurately compare the retained farm features with the new facilities and describe their locations.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response has a basic three-part structure: an introduction and overview, followed by descriptions of 1950 and today. This gives the reader some sense of the intended comparison. However, ideas within the paragraphs are not arranged clearly, and the repeated use of “wheares,” “there was,” and “there are” does not reliably show how features relate to one another. Phrases such as “In sheep are removed than added by two parking” and “In barn has removed with devloped by holiday cottages” make the sequence of changes hard to follow. Organise the details by area or by change—for example, land use first, then buildings and access—and use clear links such as “whereas,” “while,” and “in addition” accurately.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “solar panels,” “parking,” “camping field,” “farmhouse,” and “river,” so the reader can recognise several features. However, the range is basic and repetitive, with “added,” “removed,” and “there was/are” used repeatedly instead of precise language for changes and locations. Several spelling errors, including “fecilities,” “devloping,” “panells,” and “sourthen,” also reduce clarity. Some word choices distort the map information: “bridge” is not shown, and “trees” is too vague for the labelled fruit-tree area. Build a small set of accurate map verbs and location phrases, and check spelling carefully; this will make the description more precise without requiring unnecessarily advanced vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to compare the two plans using past and present forms, and it includes some longer clauses linked with “whereas.” However, sentence structures are very limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make several statements difficult to understand. Examples include “there are many fecilities are devloping,” “In sheep are removed,” and “There was many tracks,” which show problems with clause construction, verb forms, and subject–verb agreement. The tense shifts are also not consistently controlled when describing the two dates. Practise clear patterns such as “In 1950, the site contained…” and “Today, this area has been converted into…”. Check that each sentence has a subject and a correctly formed verb, and use commas to separate introductory phrases.
